The site of Saitoan (historical site)
The ground where Matsuo Basho started on trip of "Oku no Hosomichi"
In 1689, Basho Matsuo left from here for his Okuno Hosomichi trip. Saitoan is a second home of Basho's student, Sanpuh Sugiyama. Correct point is not clear, but it is said that we looked good with Hiranocho, Fukagawa where Umibe Bridge hanging over the Sendaibori River is near (Fukagawa around 1-8). Because of this, a statue of a traveling Basho, sitting on a narrow wooden passageway stands by the abutment of Umibe Bridge.
In addition, in "promenade of Basho haiku" installed in building a breakwater between Umibe bridge of the Sendaibori River and Kiyosumi bridge, notice board which representative phrase was written is put up in trip order of Oku no Hosomichi.
